Every team has the option to franchise one and only one player per season. This player must be in the final year of thier contract. This does not carry over to the next season.
Franchised players cannot be traded.
When you choose the player which you want franchised (if you have one) create a thread with his name as the title. I will then tell you how much he will make next season.
There is also the ability to steal a franchised player. In order to steal a player you will have to match the minimum steal price. Other owners may attempt to outbid the current steal offer. Owners can make as many bids on one player as they wish in an attempt to outbid other owners.
Owners are only allowed to attempt to steal one player per season. The key word is attmept, even if you fail to win the steal you are not allowed to attempt to steal any other players that season.
When attempting to outbid the current steal offer you must offer at least 500K more. The number of years will always be three for the steal contract.
The team that succeeds instealing a franchised player must compensate the team from which they stole the player. The compensation scale works like this:
Level 1: $0-$6.9~mill - the losing owner can choose to either take the stealer's first round pick or a 3.5 star or lower rated spec not on the major league roster. The top 10 picks will be protected.
Level 2: $7mill-$9.9~mill - the losing owner can choose to either take the stealer's first round pick or a 4.0 star or lower rated spec not on the major league roster. The top 5 picks will be protected.
Level 3: $10mill-$14.9mill - the losing owner can choose to either take the stealer's first round pick or a 4.5 star or lower rated spec not on the major league roster. No pick protection
Level 4: $15mill+ - same as level 3 except any spec can be taken.
Some additional points:
If an owner wishes to bid on thier own franchised player they can only do so after another owner has made the initial steal bid. Once an owner bids on his own player the level of compensation for that player in the case he is stolen is reduced by 1 level.
The losing team, in the case that they want the spec, has a window of 3 seasons in which they can choose that spec but must decide right away whether they want the pick or spec.
If a spec is on the major league roster and has fewer than 40 days of service time on the major league roster then he is still eligible to be selected in compensation.
A player can only be franchised for two consecutive seasons. If a player is being franchised a second time then the compensation for stealing the player is reduced by one level. You cannot franchise a player for more than two years in a row.
Finally, you cannot trade a stolen player during the season following the steal (the first year of thier contract with you.)
