if you voted yea, how would you suggesto doing it?
one number and anyone signed for more that the number then compensation is owed to the team that lost that player (with pick protection of course).
a sliding scale that corresponds with varying degrees of compensation and pick protection.

i voted yes. i don't know how feasible this is, but let me know what you think of this idea. i don't know what the scale would be for how much compensation, but if you pick a high salary for any FA signings, just about all of them, with the exception of a couple will be under the limit. What if you had some amount for each position to warrant compensation? Think about it, every team losing an RP (reliever or closer) will probably not get anything, no matter how good the player is. Same thing can be said for just about any hitter that isn't a number 3/4 type hitter. If there is some sort of scale by position, you'll get compensation if the player was a solid player. not if they were a superstar. Maybe something where if the salary the guy signs for is maybe top 5 in the position, some type of compensation is given. maybe a prospect, or a draft pick. the details are something that would have to be worked out, but i think the system is relatively fair, assuming a good scale is decided.

Voted no. I really don't understand the concept of being rewarded with a prospect for not resigning a player.

netfan, as well thought out as that plan is i am afraid that it would just end up confusing many owners. that, and the difficulty to put together such a system would require a decent amount of research. just doesn't see very feasible.

Compensation=Bullshit
Sometimes large market teams need to build through FA, but that doesn't mean we should cut off any chance they have at building a decent farm.
