Yeah, put away those party hats and the liquor. I'm back, and running on a generator. I still don't have power, but I should have it soon. There isn't really much of a survival story to tell, unlike Yages. I remember waking up around 7 in the morning and hearing the wind. It sounded like women were getting stabbed outside of my window. A shrilling, fightening scream. The power was already out, so I got out of bed and went into my parent's room where my little brother and my father were sleeping, and my mother was huddled around a small battery operated TV. I sat down with her and for an hour we watched as the eye made landfall. As the southern eyewall got closer to our house, our shutters started shaking and we can hear our roof shaking. Our roof started to lift up and down, with this weird sound that I can't describe. The sound of roof shingles being torn off like, 10 in a row. A "bam-bam-bam-bam-bam" noise. As the worst of it was over us, I got up and went to the living room, where we left the sliding glass door unshuttered. I looked outside and saw the winds crush the neighboring trees, and in my pool were logs from my tiki hut. After the hurricane, we went outside and cleaned up the pool and backyard. Then I took out the machete and started cutting down hanging branches, and cleaned up the countless roof shingles in my front yard.
So yeah. I also went to my grandmother's house and helped repair a wall which had been blown out. We boarded up the hole with plywood and such.
And I don't have school for the rest of the week, and probably next week. Hurray for making it up in the summer.
