Contact: the ability to put the bat on the ball. this is hte most important category and is modified by 2 other categories (gap and power).
Gap: the ability to make solid contact with the ball. The better the contact you make the harder teh ball is hit. typically a high gap player hits more line drives to where the outfielders aren't. complemented by a players speed and baserunning instinct which will result in a higher number of doubles and triples. i also believe that a high gap number results in fewer double plays.
Power: quite simply the ability to hit HRs.
Eye: the ability to recognize pitches and thier location in hte strike zone. the higher teh rating the more walks a player draws. it will also allow your player to swing at better pitches which increases the chance the AB results in a hit.
Avoid Ks: this stat, combined with eye, will determine how often your players strike out. this stat will only come into effect with 2 strikes on your player.
